First Flight: 21. Dezember 1970 The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a supersonic, twin-engine, two-seat fighter aircraft equipped with swing wings, which was developed for the United States Navy and used since 1974. On Friday the 22nd September 2006 was at the Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia, the last F-14 U.S. Navy officially decommissioned. Thus, only in Iran Tomcats in use. The U.S. spent on 2 July 2007 announced that all remaining usable scrapped F-14. The Tomcat was 1986, the secret star in the U.S. feature film Top Gun starring Tom Cruise, who showed the jet in all sorts of attitudes. The film was shot with great support from the U.S. Navy and the Pentagon, and not without effect: shortly after Releasedate young men stormed the recruitment offices of the Navy and wanted to be Tomcat pilot.
As early as 1980, the F-14A were shown the squadron VF-84 - with the pirate flag on the tail fin, the "Jolly Roger" - The final countdown to the movie.
In the American television series JAG - The Order of Honor (1995-2005) is the main character, Harmon Rabb Jr., a former F-14 pilot. Also playing in many episodes operations or accidents involving the F-14 has a role.
